Record-Breaking Forum of Local and Regional Authorities in Zakopane – over 1,000 guests discuss new challenges for local governments

The Forum of Local and Regional Authorities has begun in Zakopane, one of the largest local government events in Poland this autumn. More than 1,000 guests are taking part in the two-day meeting – leaders of local governments and representatives of the administration, business, non-governmental organizations, culture, and the media. The event is shaping up to be one of the most important and largest local government meetings of the autumn season in Poland.

Among those who announced their participation in the Forum are, among others, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence; Miłosz Motyka, Minister of Energy; Minister Marcin Przydacz, Head of the International Policy Bureau in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland; Ireneusz Raś, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Sport and Tourism; Jan Szyszko, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy; as well as numerous local government officials, including Mariusz Smółka, Marshal of the Małopolska Region, and Łukasz Filipowicz, Mayor of Zakopane.

The Forum is a leading platform for dialogue on the most pressing challenges facing local authorities. The discussions will focus on issues of sustainable development, the economy, healthcare, security, and building resilience to future crisis situations. During the two-day deliberations, participants will be able to choose from more than 100 events, including discussion panels, workshops, presentations, plenary sessions, and special meetings.

The discussions during the conference will address the most important current challenges facing the authorities of all our local governments. These will include, above all, ensuring financial stability in the face of increased defence spending, residents’ safety, and the energy and digital transformation.

The Forum will also address topics such as investment financing in the context of growing public debt; support for housing development along with urban planning challenges; education financing; cybersecurity of public infrastructure such as hospitals and water supply networks; and increasing the investment and tourism attractiveness of regions. The Forum’s topics are directed at local government officials at all administrative levels, i.e.: commune heads, mayors, and city presidents, as well as combined and non-combined administration.

The main partner of the Forum of Local and Regional Authorities is the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region. The Host City of the Forum of Local and Regional Authorities is Zakopane.
